Results! Why, man, I have got a lot of results. I know several thousand things that don't work.
--Thomas Edison
Learning what not to do in a given situation is every bit as important as learning what should be done. Co-dependents have a tendency toward feeling like failures when we make mistakes. When we feel as though we failed we aren't concentrating on what we learned. So we make the same mistakes over again.
Think of the wisdom we gain when we learn what love isn't. This knowledge can change the course of our lives. Time and time again, many of us have pursued what we thought to be love, only to be sorely let down. Until we learn that love does not mean being dependent upon or in control of others, we will continue to repeat the behaviors that keep real love out.
I will start a mental "How Not To" list and add to it each day. |
