BARBARA F. STEVENS'S expertise was acquired from experience. Stevens's mother lost a breast to cancer at forty-nine, and seventeen years later, lost her life to ovarian cancer. At forty-three, Stevens herself was diagnosed with breast cancer. Stevens holds a B.A. degree in psychology from George Washington University. She lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, with her husband.
